It’s been six months since I joined Slimming World so I wanted to share my experience so far…
To date, I’ve lost 2 stone, twelve and a half pounds. I’ve dropped two dress sizes. My BMI is almost in the healthy range (it had been up at obese). I’m sixteen pounds away from reaching the target I set on the day I signed up. With a bit of effort, I could reach my target next month and that makes me feel so incredibly excited!
To give you a bit of background…throughout my teens and after college, my weight constantly fluctuated. Once I hit my mid-twenties, the number on the scales just kept creeping up and up and up.
Then, last summer, I reached breaking point. I had just started a great new job and I wanted to buy a whole new wardrobe of office-appropriate wear to suit the role. Browsing in the shops nearly reduced me to tears every time. I hated how I looked whenever I tried something on and hardly anything fitted me. Up until then, I had mostly been living in leggings and oversized tops to cover my shape but I couldn’t get away with that at work! I decided there and then (in the changing rooms of New Look where I was seconds away from having a breakdown) that I absolutely had to sort this out. My weight was seriously affecting my happiness and probably my health too.
It took a few weeks for me to actually do something (at least I got there eventually!). After years of trying regular diets, fad diets and everything in between; I knew I had to do something completely different. I had seen a few different bloggers mention Slimming World and I wondered if that would work for me. I was terrified walking in to my first group but it’s honestly one of the best things I have ever done. I’m thrilled with my progress. In just six months, I’ve completely changed my shape and size. I’m so much happier and I feel healthier. It sounds a bit clichéd but it’s really not like a diet at all; it’s more of a lifestyle change — and it’s one I hope to maintain for years to come.
In case anyone is wondering, I just want to clarify that I am in no way affiliated with Slimming World. I just wanted to share my personal experience. Basically, I don’t work for Slimming World but Slimming World works for me (cheesy, I know, but it’s true!).
