Halloween Pancakes

Halloween is only two weeks away and I’m so excited to get in to the spirit of things! I’m starting by giving breakfast a terror-ific twist (sorry). Classic pancakes with black and orange fruity sides — fun, tasty and so simple to do!


I used this recipe to make the pancakes or you could buy them ready-made either. With the right cookie cutters; it’s easy to create cute Halloween shapes. It can get a little fiddly but it’s fun and effective too. Alternatively, you could just leave the pancakes whole (maybe pretend they’re “full moons” if you want to stick with the theme!).



Whatever you do, don’t skip the sides! I made a delicious blackberry compote and orange sauce. They’re quick and simple to put together, they complement each other perfectly and their rich natural colours just scream Halloween!


To make the compote, I just stir 125g of blackberries, 25g of sugar and a little splash of liquid (orange/lemon juice or even water) over a medium heat. Once the berries have softened, I leave it to simmer gently until I have a thick consistency.


For the sauce, I put a tablespoon of sugar and half a tablespoon of butter with the juice of 2 large oranges over a medium heat. I bring it to a boil and then reduce to a gentle simmer until it becomes thick and syrupy.


While the fruity sides are cooking away, I get started on the pancakes. I wait until the pancakes are fully cooked and slightly cooled before cutting out the shapes. Then it’s time to serve them up — the perfect sweet and spooky start to Halloween!
