The Christmas Tag

I came across the idea for a Christmas tag blog post here and just had to give it a go! I tag you all to do it so please feel free to share your answers below or leave a link to your own post 🙂

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

Definitely Love Actually — it’s so funny and festive and romantic!

Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

First thing Christmas morning!

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

Being a kid and running downstairs with my siblings to see what Santa had brought us. Also Christmas Eve 1997 when there was a massive storm and I just remember feeling all safe and cosy indoors.

Favourite festive food?

Got to love the full Christmas dinner with turkey, roast potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, veg…(no Brussels sprouts though – ew!).

Favourite Christmas gift?

My all-time favourite Christmas gift has to be the Barbie dream date set that I got when I was about seven. It was a long pink dining table complete with miniature crockery and cutlery so Barbie and Ken could have a romantic dinner. Then you could flip the table over and pull up the sides to turn it in to a boat so they could have a lovely romantic cruise…! So cute…I loved it!

Favourite Christmas scent?

Probably the smell of Christmas dinner cooking or the log fire burning in the fireplace.

Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Just last minute shopping, wrapping presents, baking…

What tops your tree?

Always an angel! We had the same one for years when I was growing up (I actually think she’s still around). Last year, I moved in with my boyfriend and we bought a beautiful angel for the tree in our apartment so I hope to have her for years too :-).

As a kid, what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I was either a low maintenance kid or very spoilt because I can actually think of nothing! Santa always went above and beyond!

What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Tradition. Waking up early, opening presents, going to mass (to be honest, I’m not the biggest Church-goer but even I wouldn’t miss mass at Christmas), having a huge dinner with family, playing board games, Selection boxes, watching movies…I wouldn’t want it any other way!

  1. Ok, I’ll answer here…

MOVIE – Probably a toss up between National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or Home Alone…or Miracle on 34th Street…or Elf. Oh I can’t pick!

PRESENT OPENING – Christmas morning, I’d never heard of opening them on Christmas Eve until I lived in the states for a few years and heard of some people doing that. Some people I know wait till after Christmas lunch! Actually I would do that if my kids agreed but I know they wouldn’t!

MEMORY – When I was a kid we always used to go to stay at my grandparents for Christmas, and we’d arrive a couple of days before Christmas day and stay until a few days after. My favourite memories are when we would arrive there, it would be so exciting, the start of Christmas, the anticipation. My Gran always went to a lot of trouble to make it special.

FESTIVE FOOD – Agree with you, the full Christmas dinner (although I DO like sprouts).

GIFT- Can’t remember my favourite ever gift, but as an adult, by favourite gifts are always clothes.

SCENT – Yep, agree with you, the dinner cooking or the log fire (we don’t have a log fire now, but my grandparents did, so that’s another childhood memory.

XMAS EVE TRADITIONS – The only one really is that from the time my kids were little, we always read The Night Before Christmas as the last thing before they went to sleep. They’re 15 and 12 now, and for the last couple of years they haven’t wanted to, but I’ve still insisted!

TOP OF THE TREE – An angel.

CRAZIEST GIFT I NEVER GOT AS A KID – Can’t think of any.

BEST PART – Just the atmosphere of the day itself, I still feel it even as an adult and it makes me feel warm and glowy all day.

    1. Love your answers! We’re going to my boyfriend’s family for Christmas this year and apparently they wait until after lunch to open their presents?! I’m not sure how I’ll handle that!
