There’s nothing better than a warm pudding on a wet and cold Sunday afternoon. Today, I decided to put together an apple and pear crumble. It’s incredibly easy to make and chances are, you’ll already have the ingredients in your kitchen so there’ll be no need to venture out. As this cooks in the oven, the fruit becomes soft and tender and the buttery crumble turns firm. Every mouthful is sweet and satisfying. This is comfort food at it’s best.
2 Bramley (cooking) apples
Cinnamon (optional but highly recommended)
6 oz. plain flour
3 oz. butter
3 oz. caster sugar
1. Wash, peel, core and cut the fruit in to small cubes. If you like, stir in a dash of cinnamon. Spread evenly over the bottom of a medium-sized ovenproof dish.
2. Rub the butter in to the flour and gradually add in the sugar until it’s all soft and powdery. Pour this mixture in to the dish, making sure that all the fruit is completely covered.
3. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°celsius for 25 to 30 minutes or until it’s firm and golden on top.
Serve with runny custard for a truly classic pud!
