Sweetie Sticks

Snacks on sticks are always well received. I call these my Sweetie Sticks — they’re cute, fun and so delicious! You can, of course, play around with what goes on to each stick. Other fruits cut in to small pieces, soft jelly sweets, red berries dipped in white chocolate — the choices are endless! You could even put mini marshmallows and small berries like raspberries and blueberries on to cocktail sticks for adorable kid-friendly portions. To make these particular treats, I found that 180g of melted dark chocolate was enough to cover 20 strawberries and around 25 marshmallows. I like to think that if you can limit yourself to just a couple, they’re not really that bad for you (Ok so I had more than a couple…but it’s still better than a wedge of cake, right?!).

First of all, wash the strawberries. Always keep in mind that chocolate hates water so be sure to pat the strawberries dry with a paper towel. Melt dark chocolate in a bowl over a small pot of simmering water (don’t let the water touch the bowl!).

When the chocolate becomes thick and runny, dip in the strawberries and marshmallows one by one. (I like to keep the green leafy bits on the strawberries for this, as it makes them easier to pluck out of the chocolate). Work quickly but carefully so that each piece is half covered.

Leave them aside in a cool, dry place to set — preferably on a large plastic sheet or board. When the chocolate has cooled and hardened on every piece, thread the strawberries and marshmallows on to wooden skewers. Enjoy!

  1. You have several winners here. Everyone love things that are chocolate dipped and everyone loves food on a stick! These look fancy and fun at the same time. What a great idea for the upcoming bbq season. 🙂

    1. Oh yeah, I’m thinking about putting some peaches glazed with maple syrup with the marshmallows and toasting the lot on the bbq – yum! 😀
