Seven wounded near Tel Aviv in long-range Gaza rocket attack

"I have decided, due to the security incidents, to cut short my visit to the United States".

The hospital treating the wounded said seven Israelis were injured lightly by burns and shrapnel, including three children.

The Hamas militant group, which controls Gaza, and Israeli military officials later said those rockets had been launched "by mistake".

The sounds of air raid sirens jolted residents of the Sharon area, northeast of Tel Aviv, from their sleep shortly after 5 a.m., sending them scurrying to bomb shelters.

This happened just the next day after the Israel Defence Forces stated a tank struck a Hamas outpost in the Gaza Strip in response to shelling against Israel from the territory of the enclave.

"In light of the security events I chose to cut short my visit to the US", Netanyahu said, adding that Israel would respond "forcefully" to the "heinous attack". Israel also closed the main crossings into the enclave.

The IDF accused Hamas of carrying out Monday's pre-dawn rocket strike, and said troop reinforcements - including reservist soldiers - were being deployed to the Gaza border.

The deaths are the latest casualties to hit the worldwide coalition amid ongoing peace talks between Washington and the Taliban. US representatives have been trying to negotiate a settlement with the Taliban to bring an end to America's longest war.

Police said a house was on fire and there were reports it had been hit by a rocket. "In a few hours, I will meet President Trump and immediately after that I will return to Israel to direct our actions close-hand".

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) is sending two additional brigades and thousands of army reserves to the Gaza border after a rocket was sacked into Israel on Monday, prompting fears of a major military incursion.

But he faces a tough challenge from a centrist political alliance led by former military chief Benny Gantz and he will come under heavy political pressure to react firmly.

Many still live in one of Gaza's eight refugee camps, the report said.

Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad denied they were behind the March 14 rocket fire towards Tel Aviv, raising the possibility they were launched by fringe groups.

The incident in Mishmeret, an agricultural town north of Tel Aviv, came at a time of high tension ahead of the anniversary of Gaza border protests and an April 9 election campaign in Israel.
