Nearly all United Kingdom businesses are 'not ready' for no deal Brexit

Dudley Council leader Qadar Zada Ian Austin exclusively revealed to the Express & Star why he is leaving Labour

British Prime Minister Theresa May will on Tuesday (Feb 26) propose formally ruling out a no-deal Brexit in a bid to avoid a rebellion by lawmakers who are threatening to grab control of the divorce process, The Sun newspaper reported.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte warned her against "sleepwalking" into a chaotic Brexit next month. "Let me be clear, I do not want to see [the deadline] extended", she told MPs.

Tory MP Dame Caroline Spelman and Labour's Jack Dromey said they would press ahead with an amendment for debate on Wednesday paving the way for the bill, drawn up by Labour's Yvette Cooper and Conservative Sir Oliver Letwin. I've had a real sense from the meetings I've had here and the conversations I've had in recent days that we can achieve that deal. "Unfortunately, we're not able to force her on this".

"As I say, I believe it is within our grasp to leave with a deal on 29th of March and I think that's where all our energies should be focused".

As a result, Labour plans to put forward or support an amendment to the deal on holding another public vote "to prevent a damaging Tory Brexit being forced on the country", he said.

There was speculation that as many as 15 ministers could be prepared to join them as patience among MPs opposed to no-deal is stretched to breaking point. "It is not an actual alternative course of action in its own right", he told Today.

"Pretty well every business says that and I have talked to businesses in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland".

Meanwhile the main opposition Labour Party said it would be tabling an amendment with five demands, including Britain remaining in a customs union with the EU after Brexit.

Labour's Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer added an additional twist to the political chaos in London by saying that even if May's deal was passed by March 12, it should face a public vote.

Thornberry further confirmed that she, Labour as a whole, and Jeremy Corbyn would be campaigning for a Remain vote.

And if the House votes for an extension, we will seek to agree one with the European Union and bring forward the necessary legislation. A version of this amendment was voted down by MPs earlier this year.

"An extension can not take no deal off the table", she told Parliament.

The party leadership has been reluctant to change tack, not least because majorities in numerous districts Labour lawmakers represent, particularly in northern England, voted in favor of Brexit.

"A second referendum doesn't do that and the voters - in very, very large numbers - will not accept that", he said.

"What kind of message would that send to the 17m people who voted to leave the European Union almost three years ago?"

To uproar in the Commons, Mrs May told MPs: "They are commitments I am making as Prime Minister and I will stick by them, as I have previous commitments to make statements and table amendable motions by specific dates".

The move is unlikely to please May who has staked her premiership on delivering Brexit, and has already faced significant pressure from her own party to step down over her handling of the Brexit negotiations.

The Scottish National Party's Westminster leader Ian Blackford said Mrs May "could not be trusted" not to dodge another meaningful vote, and urged her to rule out no-deal now.

Parliament is due to hold a series of votes Wednesday on next steps in the Brexit process.

"Ultimately, the three choices are: leave with a deal, leave with no deal, or no Brexit at all", she concluded.

The EU's Tusk warned that the chances of a withdrawal agreement being concluded in time are receding, and that sticking by the planned Brexit date would be too risky.
