Pakistan 'ready to talk' with India on Kashmir: PM Khan

India's army said Tuesday it had killed the mastermind of a major suicide bomb attack in Kashmir which it blamed on Pakistan, as calls grew for reprisals over the deaths of more than 40 paramilitaries and soldiers. The worldwide community is well acquainted with the reality that Pakistan is the nerve center of terrorism, the statement said.

Two of the militants were Pakistanis, including the group's "chief operations commander" in Kashmir, the army general said. Indian officials have said those behind the blast will pay a "heavy price".

"The Government of India (GoI) and Kashmir government must ensure that ordinary Kashmiri women and men do not face targeted attacks, harassment and arbitrary arrests following the killing of 40 security personnel in Kashmir by a suicide vehicle bomber", the AI stated.

Pakistan demanded India conduct an open and credible investigation into the attack to back up its claims. "This is against our interest".

Khan assured that action will be taken if there is any "actionable evidence" available to prove Pakistan's link to the attack. Starting a war is easy and it can be done by humans.

Jammu and Kashmir, a former princely state on the border between India and Pakistan, has been in dispute since the partition of India in 1947.

India withdrew trade privileges offered to Pakistan after the bomb attack and has warned of further action. India has repeatedly stated that it is ready to engage in a comprehensive bilateral dialogue in an atmosphere free from terror and violence. Islamabad condemned it while also cautioning India against linking Pakistan to the bombing without an investigation.

More Kashmiris are angry with India. Pakistan says it only provides moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised a strong response to the attack which has caused outrage across the country and sparked calls for retribution. It was the worst attack against Indian government forces in Kashmir's history.

"For the record, India played Pakistan in a World Cup game in England in 1999 edition when Kargil War was at its peak", the official added.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had appealed to Guterres to step in to defuse tensions, in a letter.

Friday's attack came a day before Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman was expected to arrive in Islamabad with billions of dollars in investment to help the fledgling economy. He is also due in India this week.

Indian military has been accused of using excessive force to crush the freedom movement in the disputed region, often leading to civilian casualties.
