Tottenham stun Dortmund at Wembley

Heung-Min Son Harry Kane Tottenham

The game really opened up after the opening goal, but Dortmund were unable to mount any serious openings at goal as Spurs enjoyed a lion's share of the possesion.

Goals from Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente secured a memorable win for Tottenham in their Champions League last-16 first leg against Borussia Dortmund.

Pochettino's side had been under the cosh as Dortmund dominated the first half at Wembley, but Hugo Lloris kept them level with a series of fine saves.

"It's not finished, we have to focus on the second game too".

"One goal and an assist!"

'Of course, we are happy now because it was a very good result but there is still a lot of work to do.

Tottenham's next game is in a weekend's time following their elimination from the FA Cup, when they play Burnley away from home on February 23 in the Premier League. To a man they were fantastic today.

The sides will meet again in Germany on March 5 and Pochettino warned Spurs not to take their place in the quarter-finals for granted after a host of dramatic comebacks in the Champions League in recent seasons.

Opinion about the wisdom of the signing was mixed, to say the least, after Pulisic's 86-minute performance in Dortmund's 3-0 loss.

"The first half was very hard, first of all because we never felt the confidence to play", said Pochettino post match. It was an fantastic result and the players deserve massive praise but we need to think that it's going to be tough to play over there.

He's asking me to be more decisive. 'I think the squad is very capable of winning against any opponent when we go into games confident and in the form we are in.

After a fairly evenly-played but goalless first half, Son scored just over a minute after the break with a superb volleyed finish from Vertonghen's pinpoint accurate cross.

"It is my job to prepare the strategy".

"The first half was very hard". "Tomorrow we're going to assess whether he can be on the bench".

"We were a little bit lucky because when Son scored it was a massive boost to our confidence".

First, it was Sancho, who turned Sanchez inside out with a deft body feint in the first half.

It was nearly the flawless start for Tottenham on seven minutes, as Lucas Moura flashed his volley narrowly wide of Roman Burki's left-hand post. But Tottenham's manager played down the success of his tactics.

And Ferdinand was full of praise for the teenager at half-time at Wembley.

Despite being pushed back for much of the first half, Tottenham had refused to surrender and their perseverance was rewarded in the 47th minute.

However, the North London outfit doubled their lead with seven minutes remaining as Serge Aurier whipped a cross into the box where Jan Vertonghen was on hand to head home.

Substitute Fernando Llorente then made it 3-0 in the 86th minute.
