Pelosi ‘Wants Open Borders’ And ‘Doesn’t Mind Human Trafficking’

"We're building the wall", the president said, "people don't understand that".

Democratic control of the House, even as Republicans maintain a majority in the Senate, endangers Trump's legislative goals including wall funding.

President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters that there is a "good chance" that he will declare a national emergency to secure funding for a wall on the U.S. Mexican border.

"Democrats have put forward strong, smart and effective border security solutions in the bipartisan conference committee, while the president still refuses to take a second shutdown off the table", Hammill said.

Trump, in an interview with CBS News, called Pelosi "very rigid" and said she was trying to "win a political point" by opposing his demands to fund the wall.

"But if you don't have it - human trafficking, just as an example. So I think they'll do well", Trump said.

A top Democrat has suggested that although "we aren't going to have a wall", some kind of "enhanced barrier" could be an option.

In response, Drew Hammill, a Pelosi spokesman, said in a statement on Friday night that "President Trump's recklessness didn't make us safer, it undermined our security with 35 days of border patrol agents, DEA agents, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Homeland Security personnel missing paychecks".

A senior United States administration official said Trump will "present a path forward" on the wall impasse during the televised speech but declined to offer details.

USA intelligence chief claims Russia, China will meddle in 2020 elections
Trump insisted Wednesday on Twitter that the USA relationship with North Korea "is the best it has ever been". The President only had one public event on his schedule Wednesday - an intelligence briefing.

"Well, I think that she was very rigid - which I would expect - but I think she is very bad for our country", the president said.

Pelosi has previously backed legislation to fight human trafficking and called it "an abhorrent crime".

Representative Roger Marshall (R-KS) in an appearance Sunday on Fox News Channel called for a border wall, saying he has seen firsthand the "crisis" at the southern border.

Additionally, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle anticipate a declaration would be promptly challenged in court, and be held up in the legal system.

But Sen. Richard Shelby, Alabama Republican, who has been leading Congressional negotiations on Capitol Hill wants the president to wait and see what can be worked out between the two parties. A McConnell spokesman declined to discuss the senator's private conversations.

"The President's wild and predictable misrepresentations about Democrats' commitment to border security do nothing to make our country safer", she said.

Pelosi said funding for more ports of entry or additional border security technology was open for negotiation.

Democratic negotiators unveiled a detailed opening position containing no money for any type of additional physical barriers on the border to control the flow of undocumented immigrants and illegal drugs.
