NYPD Sgt. James O'Brien was allegedly punched by Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates

Bates was reportedly arrested for refusing to pay his cab fare around 3 a.m.

Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates was arrested in Queens after he refused to pay a $32 cab fare Saturday morning and then attacked a police sergeant before being subdued with a Taser, according to the NYPD.

The assaulted officer was treated at Presbyterian Hospital-Queens, and diagnosed with a concussion. Bates refused to be fingerprinted, the NYPD said.

The 25-year-old Bates later was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, according to police.

"The defendant is being held pending arraignment on a criminal complaint charging him with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, theft of services, and resisting arrest", Queens authorities announced.

Mulvaney says Trump will use executive authority if Congress won’t fund wall
The White House has identified 17 priorities for building barriers to discourage illegal crossings. The deal resolved the crippling 35-day closure but not the fight over his proposed border wall.

On Saturday Detroit Lions executive vice president and general manager, Bob Quinn, released a statement in response to the arrest of the team's linebacker Trevor Bates.

Bates, who was drafted in 2016 by the Indianapolis Colts, has bounced from practice squad to practice squad over the last three years. "The Detroit Lions will have no further comment at this time", Quinn said in the statement.

Bates appeared in nine games this season with three tackles.

After short spells with the New England Patriots and the New York Giants, Bates was eventually picked up by the Lions in May past year.
