New Report Reveals Trump’s Proposed Border Wall Compromise With Democrats

Vice President Mike Pence, along with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney have been working "non-stop" on the proposal, according to The Associated Press. Trump has signed legislation to give back pay to federal workers once the government is reopened.

President Trump speaks about the partial government shutdown, immigration and border security in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House in Washington on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. That's why, from their perspective, Trump didn't really offer them much today.

It was possible Democrats would unveil that measure next week as the cornerstone of their border security alternative to Trump's wall, the aide said.

The shutdown, that has now entered its 29th day, was triggered on 22 December, 2018 by a lack of consensus between Democratic lawmakers and the United States president on the $5.7 billion funding for the wall on the border with Mexico, which was one of Trump's electoral promises.

After the president's speech, Democratic leaders made their rejection of the offer official.

Speaking from the White House, Trump said he was offering a "commonsense compromise both parties should embrace".

Trump's plan would protect from deportation hundreds of thousands of young "Dreamer" immigrants in the USA illegally, in exchange for $5.7 billion to build 230 miles of border wall.

On Saturday, Trump offered an olive branch to Democrats holding out on a budget deal, suggesting that the White House would be willing to cede ground on an extension on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Act, and offer help for Temporary Protected Status holders, in return for $5.7 billion in funding for the border wall.

"They certainly weren't empathetic, and they weren't kind, and I didn't think about suffering in people's lives", Gillibrand said.

The automaker has kept him at its helm, even as Nissan and Mitsubishi moved swiftly to oust him as chairman after his arrest. On April 26, 2018, both Mitsubishi and Nissan had paid approximately 15.62 million euros in total to NMBV as a service fee.

Approximately 800,000 federal employees have gone without paychecks during the partial government shutdown, the longest in United States history.

Kansas lawmakers are responding to President Trump's proposal to adjudicate deportations in exchange for border wall funding. McConnell calls it a fair compromise for ending the shutdown. His idea includes a three-year extension of protections for 700,000 young immigrants brought to the country illegally by their parents and hundreds of thousands of people with Temporary Protected Status in exchange for $5.7 billion in border wall funding and other enforcement and humanitarian assistance.

Left unsaid in the remarks from the White House: it was the Trump administration that attempted to terminate DACA in the first place, and the Trump administration that has aggressively sought to end Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for the vast majority of foreign nationals now living legally in the United States with the designation. He said that a wall would be built along 230 miles of the border. Administration officials said the protections would apply only to the approximately 700,000 people now enrolled in the Obama-era program shielding them from deportation, and not all those who could be eligible. It's now the longest government shutdown in US history.

Trump promoted his plan Saturday as a way to "break the logjam and provide Congress with a path forward to end the government shutdown".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to put Trump's proposal up for a vote in the Senate this week.

Virginia Democratic Sen. Mark Warner said Democrats should not "reward the kind of behavior of hostage-taking" and called for an end to the shutdown before discussing Trump's proposal.

A key point they are now rejecting (that they previously begged for-though this is the third time the President has offered it) is an extension of protections on almost 700,000 "dreamers" (non-citizens who entered the country illegally but of no fault of their own due to ages at the time.) Rejecting these protections now for a third time, DACA kids really should ask themselves, "Who in this debate is honestly thinking about what's best for me?"

"Unfortunately, our immigration system has been broken for a very long time...we're now living with the consequences, and they are tragic...there is a humanitarian crisis on our southern border that demands humanitarian action", said the President.
