Thousands of Amazon workers in Europe stage Black Friday strike

Amazon staff in Europe protest to coincide with Black Friday

In the United Kingdom, the British trade union GMB says five different warehouses are holding protests.

Amazon CEO "Jeff Bezos is the richest bloke on the planet; he can afford to sort this out".

The labour dispute started because Amazon changed employees' work conditions, meaning they now lose out on sick pay or breaks, she said. Amazon disputed the claims, however, saying that the majority of employees were actually inside, processing orders.

Workers at Spain's biggest warehouse, located in San Fernando de Henares, also walked out on Friday - and plan to strike Saturday.

But the request was reportedly denied because strikes are legal in Spain. Amazon told Gizmodo UK in a statement all of its sites are "safe places to work".

The 24-hour strike was staged by the country's Verdi services union, which urged the US-based company's employees to stop working until midnight Friday, fighting for better payment and a healthier work environment.

"The conditions our members at Amazon are working under are frankly inhuman". Please, Amazon treat your workers with dignity.

RBI move to boost Indian banks' lending ability by up $42 billion

Barely two days back reports had emerged that Amazon had mistakenly leaked the names and email addresses of thousands of customers due to technical error.

"Working people and the communities Amazon operates in deserve better than this".

Eduardo Hernandez, a 38-year-old employee at an Amazon logistics depot in Madrid, Spain-where about 90 percent of staff walked off the job-toldthe Associated Press that the action was intentionally scheduled on the popular shopping day to negatively impacting the company's profits. "That's what we're campaigning for".

More than 600 workers have gone on strike in Germany, where workers earn a starting salary of about $12 an hour, according to Reuters.

This year Black Friday is predicated to rake almost $6.4 Bn in online sales and Amazon is certainly expected to have the biggest share in this billion dollar sale.

"Amazon has invested over 27 billion euros and created over 75,000 permanent jobs across Europe since 2010", the statement said.

Amazon Germany said its jobs offered competitive pay and comprehensive benefits from the first day of employment. According to the UK Government's Health and Safety Executive, Amazon has over 40 per cent fewer injuries on average than other transportation and warehousing companies in the UK.
