Turkish police find 'abandoned Saudi consulate car' in Istanbul

Saudi agent seen on video leaving consulate wearing missing journalist's clothing

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Saudi authorities staged the "worst cover-up ever" in the killing of prominent journalist Jamal Khashoggi this month. "I think it's a very important ally for us".

However, Erdogan said he was not satisfied with Saudi Arabia blaming some of its intelligence agents for the killing, and called for suspects to be tried in Istanbul.

In his Tuesday speech, Erdogan added that he would use Shariah, worldwide law, and Saudi law, as well as the help of the Saudi king, to get to the bottom of Khashoggi's death.

US President Donald Trump has called the killing of Jamal Khashoggi one of the "worst cover-ups in the history of cover-ups".

Despite extensive news leaks alleging that Turkey has audio recordings documenting Khashoggi's torture and murder, neither USA nor allied government agencies had been granted access as of Monday to such evidence, the officials said.

He reiterated Trump's earlier claim that strong US-Saudi ties are essential to bolster the US's fight against terrorism, especially as it pertains to Iran.

But US and allied intelligence reporting that details any specific instructions the crown prince might have issued about the Khashoggi incident is not conclusive, the sources said.

In addition to dismissing the Saudi version of events, Erdogan says the 18 people under arrest in Saudi Arabia in connection with Khashoggi's death should be returned to Turkey to stand charges.

Trump Thanks Mexico for Deterring Migrant Caravan
President Donald Trump had weighed in with a warning, threatening to cut foreign aid to Honduras if the group didn't turn back. Jamie Davis said Thursday in a statement that the "Department of Defense has not been tasked to provide additional support".

"These penalties will not be the last word on this matter from the United States".

The president elaborated on his comments Tuesday evening at a briefing with military leaders, saying, "I would say it was a total fiasco, from day one, from the thought, whoever put it in their minds, that was not a good thought".

What Erdogan did not talk about is the widely reported audio recording that Turkish officials allegedly possess of Khashoggi being tortured and killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. "I want to assure the American people we're going to get to the bottom of it", he said.

"All of this is contingent on a real investigation that digs into the facts", he said. "Covering up this kind of savagery will hurt the conscience of all humanity", he said, per the Washington Post.

Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. Prince Khalid bin Salman, a brother of the crown prince, wrote October 8 that Khashoggi had left, and that claims the kingdom "have detained him or killed him are absolutely false, and baseless". Look, Saudi Arabia has been a really great ally.

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo later said the U.S.is moving against individuals it suspects were involved in the killing, without identifying their names or nationalities.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the entire operation was a fiasco.
