Singapore Airlines jetliner lands in US after world's longest flight

Premium economy on the Airbus A350-900 ULR

Well, if you happen to be travelling from Singapore to NY or vice versa in the future you could be about to embark on a record-breaking flight, as a new route is about to launch between the two destinations and in doing so, it will become the world's longest non-stop flight.

A representative for Singapore Airlines said that the Flight SQ22 left the Singaporean airport at approximately 11:35 pm (15:35 GMT) along with 150 passengers and 17 crew on board. While 67 people in business class and around 94 in premium economy, with no regular economy seats available.

The title of the world's longest flight, soon to be reclaimed by Singapore Airlines, has been a moveable feast in recent years as more airlines have introduced ultra-long-haul routes.

For the flight crew - which also includes two first officers and a 13-strong cabin contingent - the workload will be broken up, the airline said, with each pilot having a minimum eight hours' rest during the flight. It will be carried out with the new family of Airbus aircraft, a twin-engine, long-range plane with considerably lower fuel consumption that can fly for up to 20 hours without stopping. Check out how we built the world's longest range airliner!

The flight lasting 18 hours and 45 minutes was discontinued five years ago after oil rate of $100/barrel made it unviable. Another update has to do with aerodynamics, a design change that Airbus says increases the fuel efficiency of the aircraft by 25 percent.

The plane has a higher ceiling, bigger windows and a wider body, with less noise in the cabin and LED lighting that is created to reduce jet lag.

Trump dismisses protesters as 'very rude elevator screamers'
Trump's tweet Friday came before a crucial Senate vote on Kavanaugh, who stands accused of a high school-era sexual assault . Trump wrote, adding he found the "professionally made" and "identical" signs the protesters were carrying to be suspicious.

"My cousin said 'hey, this is in the press.' I'm going to take pictures and show her", she said.

Singaporean airlines is hoping that the introduction of more fuel-efficient planes will become a permanent thing as fuel prices continue to soar. "The A350-1000's fuselage is seven meters longer than its smaller brethren, providing greater capacity (44 more seats in Qatar Airways cabin configuration) that perfectly matches airlines' needs on their growing long-haul routes".

Four airlines now connect Singapore to six U.S. cities.

Forget cattle class. The Airbus jet that will ply the route carries a maximum of 161 passengers, compared with 253 on the airline's existing A350-900s. It received the first aircraft in September.

The in-flight meals, which are in partnership with spa resort company Canyon Ranch, aim to promote "nutrition and hydration", with the claim that the menu is formulated from "science-based recommendations and strategies to deliver an even more comfortable journey for our customers".

"We are optimistic about the demand for non-stop services to the United States", the spokesman said.
