Richard Branson says he'll put Virgin Galactic in space 'within weeks'

Virgin Group founder Richard Branson speaks at a news conference on March 30 in Las Vegas

Virgin Galactic is now in a tight race with Jeff Bezos-owned Blue Origin to launch the first space passenger flight which will bring paying passengers within the boundaries of Earth's atmosphere and space known as the Karman line.

But Sir Richard has a long history of underestimating the time it takes his firm to get test flights into the air, and the company has repeatedly missed his lofty targets.

Virgin Spaceship Unity and Virgin Mothership Eve take to the skies on its first captive carry flight in 2016.

He said Virgin would be taking people into space "not too long after" that.

Both companies offer the customers an incredible experience that will last only a few minutes. Blue Origin's setup uses a rocket launch, while Virgin Galactic uses a runway launch with a carrier aircraft that helps VSS Unity to begin its journey, with the spacecraft's rocket engines firing up later once it reaches a certain altitude.

Earlier this year Virgin Galactic completed its first supersonic test flight of its SpaceShipTwo passenger rocket ship since the fatal crash.

Trump dismisses protesters as 'very rude elevator screamers'
Trump's tweet Friday came before a crucial Senate vote on Kavanaugh, who stands accused of a high school-era sexual assault . Trump wrote, adding he found the "professionally made" and "identical" signs the protesters were carrying to be suspicious.

We want to encourage more passengers to use their time flying with Virgin Australia to exercise their mind through meditations in the Inflight Entertainment System, and what better way to make this known than by holding the world's first dedicated meditation flight. Like most space travel plans, that mission has seen multiple delays and is now set for June 2019.

"I think the market for people who would love to become astronauts and go to space is very big".

"And then we will be in space with myself in months and not years", he continued.

When British billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson hosted a dinner in Singapore on Monday night, two people at the meal each shelled out a six-figure sum, reportedly around US$250,000, the full price of each ticket. Right now the price of a Virgin Galactic ticket is nearly $250,000-and it won't be dropping anytime soon.

He said the length of Virgin Galactic's initial flights will be kept relatively short in order to keep prices at a "reasonable level".

And now Branson has told CNBC news channel its first space flight could be imminent.
