Two Russians accused by United Kingdom in spy poisoning to give interview

Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov

A televised interview with citizens of Russia Ruslan Bashirov and Alexander Petrov, suspected of poisoning ex-GRU officer Sergei Skripal, was a punishment for them for the failure of the British operation in Salisbury.

But two Russian men, identified as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, are defending themselves on Russian state TV, saying they visited England in March strictly as tourists.

"Our friends had been suggesting for a long time that we visit this wonderful town", Petrov told RT.

The pair appeared on a state television channel, claiming they weren't behind a nerve agent outrage.

One senior security source said of the pair that the United Kingdom government "is clear they are GRU" (Russian foreign intelligence), and used a "devastatingly toxic" weapon on Britain's streets.

In this file grab taken from CCTV and issued by the Metropolitan Police in London on September 5, 2018, Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov walk on Fisherton Road, Salisbury, England, March 4, 2018.

The Skripals survived the March 4 attack in Salisbury, but Dawn Sturgess, 44, later died after apparently having contact with the poison. "Therefore it can not say: "Sorry, we made a awful mistake here".

British police released CCTV footage and photographs showing the two men walking in Skripal's neighborhood on March 4, the day of the attack.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says there is enough evidence to convict the two men, although it is not applying to Russian Federation for their extradition because Russian Federation does not extradite its own nationals.

After the meeting, Bashirov and Petrov went by train to Salisbury.

It involved deploying additional forces to Russia's far east and a naval build-up involving its Northern and Pacific fleets. When asked if he was concerned about a potential military alliance between Russian Federation and China in the future, U.S.

A British government minister, who represents Salisbury, said on Twitter that the statements were not credible.

On Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin said "there is nothing criminal about them", calling the two men caught on security cameras in the United Kingdom "civilians".

They have also commented on the British police's theory that they had brought a Nina Ricci perfume bottle full of the Novichok toxic nerve agent used for the poisoning.

Her partner Charlie Rowley, 45, also fell ill, while police officer Nick Bailey, who visited the home of the Skripals shortly after the attack, was also left critically ill from exposure to the substance. "We came to you for protection, but this is turning into some sort of interrogation", he said.

Scotland Yard said it still believed the pair were using aliases after the men claimed Petrov and Boshirov were their real names.

Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov have been accused by the United Kingdom of attempting to murder a former spy with a rare nerve agent in Salisbury, England.

"The notion that two people would travel several thousands of miles to Salisbury Cathedral and expect us to believe that it was just an innocent tourist trip on the same day that one of their former countrymen and his daughter were taken ill with Novichok poisoning is absurd", Mr Glen added.

Ms Simonyan said: "They told me that if they found those pictures, they would send them to me on WhatsApp".

Whatever revelations may pop up, the United Kingdom will stick to its vague version of the Salisbury poisoning incident, analysts said on the heels of an exclusive RT interview with Britain's Skripal case suspects.
