Amazon's Jeff Bezos unveils $2 billion philanthropic fund

Here’s why the world’s richest man Jeff Bezos wore pajamas to a board meeting

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and owner of the Washington Post newspaper, warned Thursday that President Donald Trump's attacks on media are unsafe for the country.

In his tweet, Bezos said the exciting questions to ask were: "Where's the good in the world, and how can we spread it?"

Amazon chief Jeff Bezos announced Wednesday he and his wife MacKenzie have committed $2 billion to launching a fund to help homeless families and create preschools in lower-income neighborhoods.

"We will announce a decision before the end of this year", said Jeff Bezos gave as his only response regarding HQ2 at a supremely well-attended dinner marking The Economic Club of Washington, D.C.'s 32nd anniversary.

"It's not easy to give away a lot of money smartly", Callahan continued, "and a lot of these people who want to give away money well would rather delay giving until they have the time to do it". It was the result, he said in a statement, of a months-long campaign to solicit philanthropic ideas from the public.

"If our own great grandchildren don't have lives better than ours, something has gone very wrong", Bezos said in a tweet on Thursday.

In July, Bloomberg declared that Bezos was not just the richest man in the world, but the "richest man in modern history" when his net worth exceeded $150 billion.

Ozil's retirement from worldwide football came after he made claims of racism from the German football association. Rafael Benitez believes Unai Emery was the ideal candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger .

The other priority will be the Day 1 Families Fund, supporting organizations and civic groups doing "compassionate, needle-moving" work to provide food and shelter for young families. Mr. Trump often blasts the Washington Post as "fake news", and has accused the Post of being a lobbying arm for Amazon, a claim the Post has denied as completely inaccurate.

The fund will also seek to launch and operate "a network of high-quality, full-scholarship, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities", he wrote. In 2010, Buffett and Gates created the Giving Pledge, which calls on billionaires to pledge the majority of their wealth to charity.

Despite his fortune, Bezos has not been a major philanthropic donor and Amazon has been criticised in its home of Seattle, Washington, for doing little to address problems of the growing homeless population. "I am glad I am being scrutinized, ' and that would be so secure and confident", Bezos said.

"I don't know how much I'm going to give away", he told Economic Club President David Rubenstein.

"Gifts of $100,000 or more usually go to higher education or hospitals, because they can absorb it", Pasic said. "The secret sauce of Amazon - the number one thing that has made us successful has by far is obsessive, compulsive focus on the customer". "The child will be the customer". We're going to be obsessively, compulsively focused on the child.

Mathias Döpfner, the CEO of Business Insider's parent company, Axel Springer, sat down with Bezos in April for an interview that revealed more details about the billionaire's thought process for philanthropy.

"We're hoping that local, state and federal governments see this as a call to invest more in preschool and childcare", he said.
