GoFundMe says they will give Johnny Bobbitt $400,000

Judge Paula T. Dow addresses the lawyers during a hearing on missing funds in the Johnny Bobbitt case in the Olde Historic Courthouse in Mt. Holly NJ Wednesday Sept. 5 2018. Mc Clure and D'Amico are accused of mismanaging the money raised for Bobbi

GoFundMe has announced it will give $400,000 to a homeless veteran who has been fighting to receive funds raised for him by a New Jersey couple.

A search warrant was executed at the Florence Township home of Katelyn McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, in connection with a criminal investigation, confirmed Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina.

Several investigators searched the Burlington County home of Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico, who set up the fund to help Bobbitt after he spent his last US$20 to buy gas for McClure when her vehicle stalled on an I-95 overpass near Kensington past year.

Bobbitt - reportedly a military veteran struggling with substance abuse problems - filed suit against the couple, claiming they used the money from the GoFundMe campaign as a "personal piggy bank" to "fund a lifestyle they could not otherwise afford", according to The Associated Press. McClure had run out of petrol on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, and Bobbitt walked to a service station and spent $US20 of his own money to buy her petrol.

McClure and D'Amico set an initial fundraising goal of $10,000, but ultimately the campaign raised more than $400,000 (about $360,000 of which should have gone to Bobbitt after GoFundMe's processing fees). The couple has denied wrongdoing and said they were afraid that Bobbitt would spend the money on drugs.

In a joint statement issued late Thursday, GoFundMe and the law firm representing Johnny Bobbitt said he will get an amount equal to the balance he didn't receive through the fundraiser.

GoFundMe said it gave $20,000 to an account set up by his attorney to help him during the investigation.

"Johnny will be made whole and we're committing that he'll get the balance of the funds that he has not yet received or benefitted from".

It was unclear what law enforcement agents were seeking.

Kate McClure and Johnny Bobbitt reunite for the first time on TV after Bobbitt helped McClure when her auto broke down two months ago on I-95 exit ramp in Philadelphia.

Turkey’s Erdogan warns against ‘bloodbath’ in Syria’s Idlib; calls for ‘ceasefire’
It has also created zones of control in northern Syria and has several hundred troops deployed at 12 observation posts in Idlib. Moscow, however, has called Idlib a "nest of terrorists", the word it uses to refer to the rebels.

"You should advise your clients that they are directed by the court to appear, and they can assert their privileges at that time", Dow said, as quoted by ABC 7 Chicago.

Since then, the money has been in dispute, and Bobbitt is suing the couple, accusing them of fraud.

Officials were at the couple's home in Bordentown early on September 6, a day after a judge ordered them to appear in court, Fox29 reported.

Badway previously said in court that Bobbitt received at least $200,000 of the funds, The Inquirer reported.

Where Did the Money Go?

A judge presiding over Mr Bobbitt's lawsuit ordered the couple to give sworn statements on Monday on the status of all the money raised, as well as to turn over documents.

In total, $US402,706 was raised by 14,347 donors during the course of the campaign.

It's unclear how much money they had left from the GoFundMe campaign, which promised to use the funds to buy Bobbitt a home and his dream vehicle, a 1999 Ford Ranger.

To Borochoff, the Bobbitt case is an example of why donors are better off contributing to nonprofits that are subject to regulations and financial reporting requirements.

GoFundMe deposited $US20,000 in an account created by the man's legal team. A judge gave McClure and D'Amico until September 3 to hand over the remaining funds, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
