Nike releases new ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James, Serena Williams

LeBron James

As he sat in a Detroit barber's chair, National Football League running back Joique Bell talked about Nike's latest "Just Do It" marketing campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick, the former National Football League quarterback who has become the face of game-day protests against police brutality against black Americans. "I guarantee they could get more from a smile on a child's face than a symbolic burning of a pair of shoes".

The company launched a high-profile "Equality" campaign shortly after Mr. Trump's inauguration, featuring LeBron James, Serena Williams and Ibtihaj Muhammad, an American fencer who wears a hijab when competing, as well as transgender triathlete Chris Mosier. "Even if it means sacrificing everything".

The sports apparel giant has unveiled its first TV ad in the campaign, narrated by Kaepernick and scheduled to air during major sporting events.

M Science also found the latest boycott calls are mild in comparison to the outrage sparked previous year by the NFL's decision to allow players to kneel during the national anthem.

The campaign includes video ads and billboards, like one displayed atop a Nike store in downtown San Francisco on Wednesday.

Pompeo, Mattis hold talks with Indian counterparts
Pompeo and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met separately Thursday before joining top defense officials for talks. Known as COMCASA, this deal will allow the two countries to exchange sensitive military information quickly and securely.

The 1,500-person school is an NAIA-member school and its boycott will have much more symbolic impact - however large that actually is - than financial impact to Nike's bottom line.

Kaepernick, who is seen as either a great civil rights activist or a disrespectful troublemaker, depending on whom you ask, voices the ad.

US President Donald Trump has criticized the company for the advertisement. Some people even burned their sneakers to protest, so rightly or wrongly (wrongly is the correct answer), it was a controversial move.

Before Nike's announcement, about half of Americans said they were absolutely certain or very likely to buy Nike products, but that percentage has dropped to 39 percent. Activism can show consumers that companies care about more than profits, but as conservatives' reaction to Nike shows, taking a stand can be risky.

"I'm really encouraged by it", Stills said Thursday. Whether customers will actually do what they say they intend to do or their anger quickly fizzles out isn't easily determined.
