Kavanaugh pick was scripted end to Trump's reality show

Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh smiles next to U.S. President Donald Trump in the East Room of the White House in Washington

After President Donald Trump picked Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court justice nominee, the Washington Post ran the fluffiest of fluff pieces - titled, "I don't know Kavanaugh the judge". Twenty months after the 2016 cataclysm, Nominee Kavanaugh and Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch-and there will be another opening for Trump to fill, should Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg falter, God forbid, so late in her ninth decade-not to mention almost two dozen new federal appeals-court judges, are the fruit of Trump's hundredth-of-a-per-cent victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Kavanaugh also worked with independent counsel Kenneth Starr during the investigation into President Clinton.

"We are going and mobilizing where we have leverage", said Mallory Quigley, a spokeswoman for the group. Kavanaugh also benefited from a ringing endorsement from former President George W. Bush.

It took three years before the Senate voted to confirm him for that role, however.

AFP vice president Sarah Field said Kavanaugh has sterling qualifications and will "not legislate from the bench".

"We have a president whose statements and policies are rooted in racism".

Americans for Prosperity, the grassroots arm of the political network controlled by the Koch brothers, plans to spend at least $1 million in ads and canvassing to support Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from CT and a member of the Judiciary Committee, said his colleagues should press Kavanaugh to commit to recusing himself from cases involving Mueller's investigation.

England, fans euphoric after shootout triumph
"Geiger, an American, what a coincidence", Maradona had said on his nightly World Cup show for the Venezuela-based Telesur broadcaster.

He said Kavanaugh is considered "a brilliant judicial mind" and his selection was the result of a process set by "the most transparent president in history".

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., made a promise of his own, telling "CBS This Morning" that he will work to oppose the nomination with "everything I've got", adding that he's confident there will be a majority in the Senate that will do the same.

Kennedy is a conservative who often served as a swing vote, and activists on both side of the abortion debate have been discussing whether his successor might help overturn Roe v. Wade.

"Certainly, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Barrett have a lot of name recognition among supporters of the president, and I think that ultimately, when people like them are nominated, you'll see a lot of folks line up", he said. He says he will fight the nomination "with everything I have", and warns that if Kavanaugh is confirmed, "women's reproductive rights would be in the hands of five men on the Supreme Court". He wrote that the high court has "held that the government may further those interests so long as it does not impose an undue burden on a woman seeking an abortion".

The DNC deleted its initial tweet with the incorrect picture and sent out another tweet with the correct one, but not before they were mocked by several conservative reporters and the office of Sen.

"I believe it is vital that the President be able to focus on his never-ending tasks with as few distractions as possible", Kavanaugh wrote.

Republicans will target three Democrats facing re-election in conservative states where Trump won big majorities in the 2016 election - Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Joe Donnelly of in - to support Kavanaugh. She is the mother of seven children, including two from Haiti and one with special needs. "It's been decided by the Supreme Court".

The vacancy on the nation's highest court was caused by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.
